Well, this post comes to to you...post-first-day-of-school. And we're all alive! I'm going to call it a success because, despite my fears, it was a very productive day. (There were no episodes of pencils flying across the room in frustration, either.) Someone (hanging my head) decided it'd be a fantabulous idea to have a garage sale at the end of our very first week of school. (In my defense, ahem, it coincides with the annual motorcycle rally that more than doubles this town's population for the duration.) I managed to get everything set up and priced after school yesterday afternoon, except for two baskets of clothes that were going through the washer at the time. This was due in part to some maturing that has occurred since last school year. Focus was better and there was less dragging of feet.
Gavin is still not at all a fan of cursive writing, but there is no option to slack on it this year. He is only in first grade, so his attention span is all over the place. However, he still managed to complete history, phonics, and handwriting for the week.
Aidan (third grade) was very reluctant to start because there were other little kids here besides brothers to play with, but he bucked up and plowed ahead anyway. He was able to finish math, history, geography, and handwriting for the week before lunch. The mail arrived around noon and brought with it his phonics book (which I forgot to order earlier!) He immediately sat down with it while I was heating up his food and had his four weekly pages finished before I sat his plate down in front of him. Did I mention he loves phonics?
Liam did two pages of his preschool workbook, which was color recognition. He had a pretty light load for his first day.
Hoping for another productive day today as our garage sale starts tomorrow morning and will run through Saturday evening. It's been a blessing having Eli here to help out as much as he has! He was able to find a side job to bring in some cash this week, but still nothing permanent. Deo gratias for the blessings that have carried us this far!
