A Baby Shower of Roses

Yesterday the ladies' group of our church, St. Anne's Guild, joined forces to throw a baby shower for the newest member of our parish, Alexis, and her mother, Julie. Yesterday was also the Feast Day of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, a Doctor of the Catholic Church, known also as the "Little Flower". St. Therese said, "My mission--to make God loved--will begin after my death. I will spend my heaven doing good on earth. After my death I will let fall a shower of roses." Fittingly, we held a St. Therese themed rose tea party.

This sweet little lady slept through the entire shower

We started off with the best part: prayers and brunch! The main coordinator of the shower was Christina, my good friend and Liam's godmother. She created a spread of tasty tea-appropriate finger foods. There were cream puffs topped with strawberries, chocolate roses, ham and snap pea rosettes on pumpernickel bread, chicken with cranberry salad sandwiches, cherry danish bars (made by my Mom), squash soup (much like Panera Bread's!), and four or five different kinds of tea. I chose Chai.

Diaper cake I made with bibs, spoons, wash cloths, tethers, receiving blanket "icing", and baby sock roses.

The little girls in attendance had their own little table and paper teacups to decorate (a gift from Christina's sisters!)

Once the ladies had finished brunch, we moved on to games. The first game we played was a St. Therese Trivia game (click for link). The ladies with the top three scores were presented little prizes. The next game was ROSES bingo. This was a much slower game, and I'm not sure that it'll be used for another shower. But we managed to squeeze three "Roses!" out of it.

The little girls were presented with little gift bags of their own.

Julie opened her gifts next. She was also presented several gifts from St. Anne's Guild, as we ladies had collected larger items that their family was in need of. Her husband was recently laid off from the same company that Eli was laid off from, so food was one of the more helpful things given. She also received a sit-and-stand stroller, a crib mattress, and a glider rocker.

The quilt I finished literally 5 minutes before I raced out of the house for the shower.

As we started cleaning up, a baby bottle filled with M&M's was passed around for us to guess the number of. Christina and I had to mark the end of another successful baby shower with a photo together.

My comadre, her daughter, and me!

And then this happened. My Mom was trying to figure out how to take a photo with my phone. I ended up with about 40 time-lapse photos of me executing an explosive laugh. I realize that I most likely scare people on occasion, and God bless the few friends of mine that bear with me! :D

Ok, I'm better now. Until next time, adios!
