Preparation? or Chaos?

So, what do your Christmas preparations look like?

The road to Christmas is paved with good intentions, for sure.

By the time I accomplish the intended task set aside for each of these things, Christmas will undoubtedly be over.

The struggle is real, my friends. For those of you who have asked how I do it all, it's very simple: I don't. I also don't have company very often, thankfully. I'd probably die of embarrassment. I'm not exactly sure why I'm sharing these photos, other than the desire to be honest and show real life here. I also have a sneaking suspicion that others' houses look like this too more often than they'd like to admit. It is very easy to show nothing but the finished projects, perfect meals, and the polished parts of the house. But that is not how it really is most the time. While you gaze admiringly at magazine-worthy pictures of culinary creations, a mountain of dirty dishes looms behind me and scraps of discarded food litter the kitchen table. I often forget what I'm doing and the top later of veggies I'm sauteeing ends up having to be scraped carefully off the bottom, scorched layer. My poor husband can testify all too well to this. There may or may not be a half-eaten candy cane stuck to the side of my coffee maker.... How much more festive can you get? Completed crafts are moved to the one clean corner of the house for a photo shoot while discarded threads and beads of hot glue occupy table and desk tops and floor.

Boxes of unused decorations are still hanging out here and there. Someone thinks my lantern is a handy hat rack. I'll spare you from images of the muddy trail leading from the back door to the bathroom that I have yet to scrub. Boys have been enjoying the unfrozen world outside and no one seems to remember what rugs are for.

All I want for Christmas is a clean, tidy house and Christmas morning Mass. Better get to it I guess! The struggle for domestic perfection is a never ending one.
