Calm After The Storm

It was a relief today knowing we had no family get-togethers to be at, no dishes to prepare for guests, and no packing up to take off for the day. July, so far, has been exhausting. And it began in June. As much as I love our families, by the first of July I wanted to lock myself in a dark room with a blanket over my head and crank up some Moonlight Sonata or Clair de Lune.

June 26 was Mom and my day out shopping for dresses for the wedding.

June 27 Eli and I viewed a prospective house and put an offer on it, which was accepted without a counter within two hours. (More on that in another post.) From there we went to our friends' house, who will hopefully be our new neighbors yet this summer. On our drive home we got the call that Eli's Grandma had passed away. Eli went to be with his family and then we got together at his sister's house later that night. It was a rough night, and a bottle of chardonnay and a questionable amount of vodka later... rough night.

June 28 I attended a bridal shower for a cousin.

June 30 Eli had family come home for the funeral, so we congregated at his parent's house for the evening.

July 1 was Grandma's wake, then to Eli's parent's house again.

July 2 was Grandma's funeral. There was a luncheon in the church basement following, then we went to Eli's aunt and uncle's. When that crowd cleared out we went to his sister's house again.

July 3 Eli's family came over to our place for grilling and a fire. I topped off the night with a mild case of food poisoning from leftover funeral food that was left out too long for "grazers", like myself of course.

July 4 was Joe and Carly's engagement party. There was more grilling, a bonfire, and an impressive fireworks display by my brother, Jim.

The rest of the month is shaping up to be pretty busy as well. Another family get-together next weekend, our 9 year anniversary, a nephew's birthday party, and the wedding. While the schedule is not as jam-packed as the last month has been, I'm looking forward to August and less commitments.

The thought of Monday coming is bittersweet, with Eli having to go back to work after so many days off, and back to the grind for us around here. I plan on keeping busy  with a sewing alteration for Mom's dress. Then I plan on going through stuff to post and sell, and purging junk. Lighten the load a little before our (hopefully) impending move. Oh yeah, and the garden needs weeding again. And lesson plans need to be written. Plenty to do to keep my mind off things, for sure.

Here are a few photos from our last week.
